My Milestones

Need help finding your way through the college admission maze?

Connected for College's My Milestones were designed for busy students and are intended to take the mystery out of the college admission process and help students keep on track for graduation.  We've taken care to identify not only college admission tasks but also activities to encourage students to master the Top 100 College Competencies™  and put them together in one easy to use calendar.

Start preparing early!  My Milestones begin in sixth grade and have valuable suggestions on developing good study habits, reading and saving for college.  Middle school milestones focus on developing College Competencies and engaging in community service opportunities.  The checklist becomes more detailed in high school with tasks broken out by month and are focused on college applications and graduation.

My Milestone Sneak Preview:

Eighth Grade

This is the perfect time to explore your interests and gain valuable service and leadership experience. Keep acquiring College Competencies and you'll be well prepared for high school.

Review your list of College Competencies. How many have you mastered so far? Set a goal to complete at least one competency from each section during eighth grade.

Find your passion. Discovering your passion can help you choose classes that appeal to you, a part time job you love, meaningful volunteer work and eventually a college major.

Seek out leadership and community services opportunities that relate to your passion. Look for opportunities on your school website, in Scouting organizations and with non profit youth councils. Find more ideas in Connected for College's Library

Meet with a high school guidance counselor to get advice on course planning for freshman year. Aim for rigorous core courses and electives that support your interests.

Read. You won't ever be bored if you have a good book to read. See Connected for College's Library for a list of the classics.

Start saving for college.
